Describe legal system incentives for social responsibility Essay
Describe legal system incentives for social responsibility - Essay Example It is therefore very essential that such matters are create that can prompt people to act in a responsible way. This can be done through the process of legal incentives. What this essentially means is that you give people certain advantages for doing something for the welfare of the society and the general public. These incentives can vary in their shape and form (Ibrahim 1993). An example can be taken from the field of Architecture, in many of the projects in New York City; legal incentives were given to developers in the form of added flow space. However, what was required from them was to give public spaces in the form of plazas; which can act as breathing spaces in the urban jungle of concrete. Other incentives can be given in the form of honorary titles, awards and bonuses depending upon the nature of activity. Generally it is not very favourable to give volunteers financial gifts, just to respect the nature of volunteering, which is based on good will rather than expectations of a monetary gain. Apart from the proceeds in from of intangibles gained by the organizations that practice CSR, monetary returns are also of great value, which are derived from the good will created by inculcating the socially responsible behaviour in the system. Further incentives can be given to people who work with the law enforcement agencies for curbing the ever increasing crime rates of the cities. Some of these incentives can be in the form of providing people support in the latter stage of their lives that may include putting them up in old ages/retirement homes which can be facilitated by the government (Karake-Shalhoub 1999). On a personal level unemployed young individuals can gain a lot from fulfilling their social responsibility. This will enable them to acquire confidence, self-esteem and they will be able to develop or enhance certain skills, which will eventually prepare them

Timeline - Essay Example The definition of the computer used today is based primarily in von Neumannââ¬â¢s conception that the computer is a device, which is capable of accepting data input, processing data, storing it and producing data output. The history of computing has progressed from the vacuum tube to the transistor, ultimately to the microchip and modem. This paper will provide a comprehensive timeline of the history of computing, describing the evolution of various computing items through timelines such as 2400 BCââ¬â1949,à 1950ââ¬â1979,à 1980ââ¬â1989,à 1990ââ¬â1999,à 2000ââ¬â2009,à 2010ââ¬â2019. 2400 BCââ¬â1949 In this period, computing devices focused primarily on enhancing peopleââ¬â¢s capacities to make calculations. The initial devices used for calculation were tally sticks, with the Lebombo bone being the first known to modern archeology. However, the abacus, developed in 2400BC is the first ever calculator, invented by the Babylonians to enhance sim ple arithmetic. The Chinese abacus (suanpan) was invented in 200BC and was widely used before the invention of present dayââ¬â¢s calculator (Isaacson, 2011). ... In 1930, American Vannevar Bush developed a partly electronic difference engine with the capacity to solve differential equations. In 1939, German Helmut Schreyer completed a prototype memory using neon lamps and a 10-bit adder prototype using vacuum tubes. In 1942, Americans Atanasoff and Berry made a special-purpose calculator for system solutions of linear equations, later known as the Atanasoff-Berry-Computer (ABC). German Konrad Zuse created the S1, which was the first process computer that measured the surface of wings (Turner, 2006). In 1944, IBM developed the second program machine, which was 51 feet long and weighed nearly 5 tons. In British, in 1949, the Manchesteer Mark 1ââ¬â¢s final specifications were completed. This machine was the first computer to utilize the equivalent of index registers, which entered the second generation computing architecture in 1955. 1950ââ¬â1979 This period appeared to focus intently on the creation of computer communication and intellig ence. In 1950, the Pilot ACE computer, having 800 vacuum tubes with mercury delay lines as its main memory became functional in the UK (Black, 2001). In 1951, Americans J. Prespert Eckert and John Maunchly designed the first commercially operational electronic computer, UNIVAX, which handled both textual and numeric information. This machineââ¬â¢s implementation was the real start of the computer age (Isaacson, 2011). In 1951, the CIRAC (Council forà Scientific andà Industrialà Researchà Automaticà Computer) became the first digital computer used to play music. In 1952, IBM introduced the IBM 701, which was the initial computer in its 700 and 7000 series of large scale machines. In 1960, the initial ordered, technical programming

Discrimination of African Americans - Essay Example Malcolm X, who was shot down for his activities and involment against inequality and racism existing in the country. The period of 1955-1968 saw the emergence of the civil rights movements aimed at outlawing racial discrimination against the African Americans and giving them back their right to vote. The emergence of the Black power movement, which lasted from 1966 to 1975? supported the civil rights movement to expand their aims as well as protect racial dignity and freedom from oppression by the whites. In the year 1965? the Voting Rights Act was passed, and it was considered to be the most successful period of civil rights legislation ever adopted by the United States congress. This action of the congress was greatly appreciated and supported by almost all African Americans in many southern parts. All these acts and legislations passed that were passed? during that time? facilitated the eradicaton of ongoing obstructions faced by the African Americans against their right to vote. The situation and condition of the working class in the United States improved immediately? once the country got involved in the World War II. The nation saw a drastic increase in the employment rate from its 1940 levels. Employers were desperate to fill positions required in the production of military equipments, vehicles, weapons and ammunition. The vacancies were open to traditional workforce, women as well as the non-whites who had long been excluded from skilled and high paying industries. The emergence of the Black Panther Party (BPP) saw a dramatic change in the political scenario in the United States during the period. Rgis paper stresses that there are places where racism exists between the whites and the African Americans. But the situation was much worse during a few decades back. The African Americans had no rights and were totally supressed and oppressed under the power of the whites. Let us take a look at the America as it was after the 1950s. At the beginning of the 1960s, the Americans believed that they were about to witness the golden age or, in other words, the era of golden age was about to begin. On Jan 20, 1961, John.F.Kennedy was elected as The President of the United States. But the golden age was never materialised and the end of the 1960s seemed to be the downfall of the nation. During his presidential campaign, John.F.Kennedy had introduced laws and reforms to eliminate injustice and racism in the country. But these laws did not bring with them solutions to any of the problems faced by African Americans in US. This paper makes a conclusion that it becomes evident that it was because of the joint efforts of a lot of leaders, especially African American ones, that they could restore equal treatment and rights just like the white people had. A lot of processions and demonstrations finally paved way to the world in general to realize the fact that there is no point in racial discrimination, or any kind of discrimination for that matter. People all over the world, especially America opened their eyes to the reality that all human beings are the same despite what his race, religion, caste, ethnicity or nationality may be.

Parenting Model Metaphor Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 1
Parenting Model Metaphor - Essay Example In a game of chess, to be able to win, a player must move the right piece at the right time. That also happens in parenting. When parents want their children to behave well, they need to send the right message at the right time to them. Children are very sensitive sometimes. Parents might feel a short message or an unexplained order is enough to control their childrenââ¬â¢s behavior. The children, on the other hand, might think that the short unexplainable message means that they are not needed or that they are not loved. Taking time to help the children understand what happens around them, what is expected from them, and what will happen if they do that is very crucial for parents to make them understand and, more importantly, feel appreciated. (Chapter 12) A game of chess is played step by step. In this game, it is impossible to move all the pieces at the same time without disrupting the rule. At most, in special occasions, the player can only move two pieces in the same turn. This is also true in parenting. Parents-children relationship cannot be built in a day. Their trust is built through simple and continuous daily interactions. Parents, even mothers, cannot expect their children to completely accept them trustfully from the very first day. Children, especially infants, will grow closer and more attached when the parents keep showing their affections through loving and caring contacts like when these parents change their diapers, feed them, comfort them, or talk to them. (Chapter 12) A chess player indeed needs to capture the opponentââ¬â¢s chess king to win the game. However, it doesnââ¬â¢t mean that the player should forget his/her own chess king. He/She must guard the king carefully so that the opponent is unable to capture it. Does this defense also apply in parenting? Yes, it does. Promoting and keeping guard of a secure attachment with their children should be a major goal of all good parents. Parents who are
Journey of life Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Journey of life - Essay Example Another family tradition that has been very important in my family is the weekly prayers and lunch, every Friday, we would get together and share a meal after our prayers, and this helped us understand the importance of family and spirituality. Religious Events As a Muslim, each year we have the Ramadan, this is the time we take to fast and pray, we do not eat after sunrise and after sunset we are allowed to partake in our meals. This event has taught me that one cannot be a slave to food or the desires of his body and that the spiritual life is crucial. We also have the Eid Alfeter and Eid Aladha in our calendars in addition to Alhaj when we go the Mekkah in December for one week to worship Allah; it is a time of rejuvenation for our spiritual life, this seems to echo the sociocultural theory that children master activities and add value to them just as we do with our spiritual life. Academic Events I have been very fortunate in life to have two graduations, one from college and the other from the English program and in both events my family was there to celebrate with me, they were some of my proudest moments in life. I knew that I had achieved a major milestone as is expected in my journey through life and as an interpretation of the sociocultural theory which includes learning as part of cognitive development. Having my family to be a part of it showed me that family always rejoices with one in good and in bad times. This achievement was a step into the adult life because I was now walking into the world to fend for myself and not rely on my family as I always had. Career Events After school, I got a job with a company and to celebrate, I invited my colleagues for dinner, this was a way to form a relationship with them while at the same time celebrate the blessings in my life. After a while I moved jobs and took another one as a high school teacher, this was necessary as in life one cannot stagnate in the same position, growth is expected and is a way of sh owing positive development, it is one of the steps to self actualization Relationship Events My wedding day was one of the happiest days in my life, after an year of engagement to my fiance I was happy to be taking this major step, this was the only romantic relationship I had had in my life in line with the psychosocial development theory, intimacy as compared to isolation became important in my life. Taking the marriage step was a bold move on my side, despite it being the norm, there were times I was not sure if I would make a good husband but after evaluating myself I decided that I was ready and I would become better each step of the way as we guide each other, my wife and I. Challenging Events Coming the United States was not just exciting but challenging as well, I was overwhelmed and culture shock hit me hard, I did not know how o speak English and it being the main language I knew I had a long road ahead of me. As the social cognitive theory states that people observe and a t times take up the behaviour of others, I took up the challenge and decided that I would master the language come rain or shine and I am happy that my determination bore fruits as I can now effectively communicate in English. Looking back at all the events in my
